PVC-U Double Glazed Casement Windows

Casement windows from Scotia Double Glazing, Ayrshire and GlasgowScotia Double Glazing manufacture and install high quality, high security casement windows in the Ayrshire, Glasgow and West Central Scotland areas.

Our range of PVC-u windows is designed to provide a modern replacement to timber casement windows.

They are constructed from impact-modified PVC-u for strength and ability to stand the wear and tear we would expect over the lifespan of our product. We utilise a 70mm frame depth which ensures again ensures minimum disruption when your old windows are replaced, as the frame depths are almost identical. In addition the 70mm frame depth provides strength, rigidity and superb insulation.

Our windows are fully reinforced to our system designer’s specification and all of our PVC-u frame joints are fully welded at a temperature of 240 degrees, once welded the joint is actually stronger than the frame itself providing you with a strong and robust seal against the elements.

High Security Casement Windows

High security casement windows

Loss of treasured possessions and damage to property are obvious consequences of burglary, but the invasion of your home by a complete stranger can be particularly disturbing for you and your family.

For your safety and security, all of our casement windows are fitted with internal glazing beads to ensure that intruders cannot gain access by removing the glass sealed units. Our stainless steel friction hinges are also designed to provide high security and are tested to 50,000 opening cycles.

Our window locking system incorporates an ingenious twin cam-locking device, which can offer double the security of many of our competitors. To maximize security each twin-cam locking device moves in the opposite direction of each other. Our security features are completed by our push button/key locking handles, which allow you to lock your windows in either a closed or a venting position. In addition Scotia achieved PAS 024 for the enhanced security and performance of windows in domestic applications and Secured by Design (awarded by Association of Chief Police Officers to those products attaining their preferred specification).

Energy Efficient Double Glazing

Energy efficient casement windows from Scotia Double Glazing

All our casement windows are fitted with 28mm sealed units, which would normally consist of 4mm glass – 20mm argon gas filled airspace – 4mm soft coat low emissivity  glass This provides a sealed unit with a U-value of 1.2 W/m²K. Our 20mm air gap is the largest available and provides the best combination of heat insulation and sound insulation. Scotia can also provide a complete range of windows which achieve the highest Window Energy Rating “A” Rated.

Scottish Building Regulations were updated in October 2010.They now provide customers with a variety of options when replacing their windows.

Replacement Windows must either have a U Value for the whole window of at least 1.6 W/m²K or better, or high performance glass units with a U-value of at least 1.2 W/m²K or a window which has a Window Energy Rating of “C” or above.

For New Build properties the new regulations are slightly different as Scottish Building Regulations require either a U value for the whole of the window of 1.6 W/m²K or less, or a minimum Window Energy Rating of “C” or better.

Extensions are a bit more complicated as the Regulations take into account the insulation in your existing home and if you have an older property, for example a building that was constructed over 30 years ago, the level of insulation in the walls and roof is likely to be poorer than a property built within the last 30 years. As a result, if you have an older property with poor wall and roof insulation you will be expected to fit a higher performance window to any extension which will achieve a U value for the whole of the window of at least 1.4 W/m²K or have a Window Energy Rating of “A”.

In the case of more modern properties the level of insulation to the walls and roof is expected to be better and as a result the level of insulation required for windows is less. In this case the U value for the whole of the window will be at least 1.6 W/m²K or a Window Energy Rating “C” or better
